Doug Fernandez

Anchor

"Making a difference everyday in the lives of New Mexicans… telling them and showing them how the news affects them and their families… that's what Coverage You Can Count On is all about."

Doug Fernandez delivers "Coverage You Can Count On" to all of New Mexico as co-anchor of Action 7 News Live at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. He joined the Action 7 News team in August 2002.

Before joining Action 7 News, Doug worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at KCAL-TV in Los Angeles. Prior to this, he worked at stations in Shreveport, La.; Dallas; Fresno, Calif.; Anniston, Ala.; and Jackson, Tenn.

Doug graduated in 1983 with a degree in business from the University of San Diego.

As a veteran broadcast journalist, Doug has covered a wide range of stories for Action 7 News. In keeping with Action 7 News' commitment to coverage, he was the only New Mexico TV anchor to provide live coverage from the 2004 and 2008 Democratic National Convention, the 2004 and 2008 Republican National Convention, and the grand opening of the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.

Doug has also traveled to southeast Texas to cover the Shuttle Columbia disaster, Hurricane Katrina's aftermath and -- over a 3-day period -- was on the air for more than 16 hours covering bosque fires in the summer of 2003.

Doug grew up in Fremont, California.

He enjoys spending time with his children, playing golf (while enjoying the beautiful New Mexico scenery), and watching his beloved Oakland Raiders and Oakland A's.
