when you travel to New Mexico usually think it's the desert, it's gonna be warm. We have the nineties during the summer but parts of our state you have the teams, It snows, it's icy. We do get cold, we sit *** mile up and when we get into the winter months in this dry air that we have, we are off of dropping to some very bitter loads, 25% of kids in the state live in poverty, *** ranking of 49th in the country. We have *** lot of underprivileged Children and family sometimes *** jacket $40 or $50. They can't afford it. There's *** need here because of access. It's such *** large state. And new Mexico. I was home to 23 tribes and pueblos, many of which are in *** remote area. Families just don't have the access to to drive hours. There are kids who show up to school cold and they don't have what they need to stay warm during the winter. You can't have *** good quality of life if you don't address basic needs. First our annual coach for kids drive is underway now every year ko 80 collects coats for kids to stay warm during the cold weather. Every fall kott does this incredible event. We ask the community to help us out and donate coats and then we distribute them to Children and schools all across New Mexico. So no child New Mexico is left cold. The face of this and the heart of this is K. O. ***. T. T. T. V. Well you can't do anything without partners turns out we do have willing partners, we've been really proud to partner with co 80, you know, so many families face challenges of all kinds and keeping your kids warm shouldn't be one of them. This campaign I think is critical, supporting Children with their basic needs and that just expands on the rest of their life. Starting in october, we reach out to our viewers on air and we say if you can help donate coats for kids in our community, drop them off. So we have these bends set up in our partners throughout the community where hey, get *** new coat and donate it and put it in this box. I want to show you the boxes here. You'll see these gear in the lobby with the kiwi T coats for kids logo out front. Take *** look at some of the coats that we have been able to by with all the cash donations that box gets full. Then you've got *** partner with somebody else who will take up the coats and bring it to *** distribution center. I want to show you this, Check out this truckload full of brand new coach for kids. We set up *** live drive day. We need your help this morning. We're collecting coats for our coats for kids drive. Right now, it's our annual live drive. We have all members of our team across walmart's collecting *** lot of time, *** lot of energy, *** lot of coordination goes into this event. Were there all day from even the sun comes up to when the sun goes down, we are caffeinated and ready to go, perfect morning for collecting coats. So we've actually been having to remove coats just to make room. There's more, it's *** parade parade this one because I like the colors are super fluffy for them. Every child was *** gift from God and Children doesn't deserve to look at this little coat. Isn't this just adorable adding up the coats, but we still need your help. This is *** pretty cool story exactly why we do this drive. One woman says she was once gifted *** coat from our coach for kids drive when I was *** kid, we didn't have *** lot of money that calls for kids help me with *** jacket. She has made it full circle. So I'm from the san Ildefonso Pablo and they reached out to us this year saying, hey, how can we get some of these jackets? We got to drive them up and give them to these kids. Did you see *** jacket up here that you like? Why did you pick that jacket? Kids like you like p it's *** day in my career that I'll never forget. It was truly so special This particular year we collected around 4000 codes and putting that into perspective. That's 4000 plus kids, that's *** lot of kids that get to go outside and play and go to school and be warm. Giving them these coats. I could see that it really brightens her day and that means so much. That's what coats for kids is all about. *** simple coat does more than keep them warm. We oftentimes look at coats, it's like giant hugs coming from the heart of someone out there that made an effort. I think it's *** tremendous success. That points to how our community cares for each other. There were *** lot of kids, luckily who had *** coat because of what we do here. Thousands of New Coast go out to thousands of kids in need and that's what coach for kids all about.

As many families struggle financially from hardships, we are hopeful our community will come together and support KOATs for Kids.KOAT 7 and its partners are gathering donations of NEW coats, of all sizes, ages and genders, at area drop-off sites. Coats will then be collected, sorted and delivered to school districts across New Mexico.
