Ron Burke joined KOAT-7 in January of 2021 as a news anchor and sports director. He comes to the Land of Enchantment from our sister station WPBF 25 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Before that he spent much of his career in Philadelphia, PA as an award-winning sports anchor, host and reporter, he made the transition to news in 2018. Ron has reported on news stories ranging from education, tourism, agriculture and hurricanes to political campaigns. He also kept his hand in sports by reporting from Major League Baseball camps and putting together features on local athletes. Ron joined Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia in 1997 as anchor of the morning show, SportsRise. After spending a year with NBATV, he rejoined CSN in 2002, and remained with the network until 2017. In 2014, Ron became the weekday lead anchor of the news and highlight show, SportsNet Central. In 2005, Ron was named Pennsylvania Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. In 2013, his report on the current owner of the original manuscript of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award. This honor is especially rewarding because Ron developed his vision of becoming a public speaker after being crowned Homecoming King in high school for his rendition of Dr. King’s famous speech. During a television career that began at WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg, Virginia, Ron has covered a wide range of events, including Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Playoffs and The Winter Olympics. He also enjoys his role as an inspirational speaker. Ron has spread his message of self-responsibility, accountability and determination to many audiences. While in Florida, Ron became an avid biker, and is eager to see if he can handle New Mexico’s mountainous climbs. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Ron graduated from James Madison University with a B.A. degree in Communication Arts.
