Mark is a Peabody-winning journalist who leads the Hearst Television National Investigative Unit based in Washington, D.C. He’s been a journalist for more than 20 years, in a career that’s been distinguished by investigative and original reporting across the U.S. and around the world. He has reported for the CBS Evening News, CBS Sunday Morning, CBS Saturday and on CBS News Radio, when he was a freelance correspondent at the network for three years. He also launched a news startup and led it as editor-in-chief and has taught journalism students at Northwestern University and journalists in Pakistan and Vietnam.

Mark is a winner of the highest honor in broadcast journalism, the George F. Peabody Award, for his year-long, five-part investigation into the death of a sailor in Iraq that led the U.S. military to change the way it tracks the remains of every American service member killed around the world. Mark is also a two-time honoree of the National Headliner Award, including its Grand Award; recipient of honors from both the National Press Foundation and the National Press Club; winner of the Premack Award for Excellence in Public Affairs Reporting, six regional Edward R. Murrow awards, and 12 regional EMMYs; and a recipient of the Excellence in Legal Journalism and the Advancement of Justice award from the Michigan Bar Association, along with many other honors.

At Hearst Television, Mark’s reporting has been honored nationwide, including with a Telly Award for his series and hour-long special, ‘Hate in the Homeland.’ The series ‘Sucked In: America’s Vaping Epidemic’ has been honored with the Al Neuharth Award for Innovation in Investigative Journalism (NLGJA) along with the Excellence in Financial Journalism Award (NYSSCPA) His investigation into cyber vulnerabilities in healthcare, ‘Hacking Your Health,’ also won a Excellence in Financial Journalism Award (NYSSCPA). For three years in a row – 2019, 2020, and 2021 – the Society of Professional Journalists honored Mark with its ‘Correspondent Award’ for the best DC-based reporting for an outside-the-Beltway audience.

Mark has been to more than 82 countries so far and his goal is to visit them all.
