The permit to host the annual motorcycle rally in Las Vegas was pulled and the 2023 event has been canceled. This comes weeks after the Red River shooting left three dead and several injured. Las Vegas Mayor Louie Trujillo said the decision came after input from the public and law agencies."It was a decision that was made by several law enforcement agencies and also supported by other agencies that were involved, local law enforcement and of course, federal experts," Trujillo said. "It was a consensus of law enforcement, very concerned about the public safety of the upcoming rally."Trujillo is one of the people who enjoyed going to the annual Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally. Despite that, the community feedback to her office has been"I've had mostly positive feedback, some people are disappointed and I, for one enjoyed the rally myself," Trujillo said. "I used to go every single year and participate in support and so forth and support the organizers always have."The rally was set to be held over a three-day period from July 28-30. The safety risk to the community was the biggest contributing factor in its cancellation."Our decision was purely based on a public safety risk and that that's the only reason why this cancellation Trujillo said. "You know, that the permit was pulled for this event and the event was canceled."
