Los Lunas graduate granted inaugural KT Legacy Scholarship
Over 223 teams took part in the Kenny Thomas 5th annual I-25 Showcase this past Memorial Day weekend in Belen. The three day tournament took place at 18 different sites hosting teams ranging from third graders to high school seniors. For former NBA player and Lobo legend, Kenny Thomas, the tournament is a chance to help New Mexico athletes gain exposure beyond the state. "This is one of those events to where it's great for New Mexico," Thomas said. "Here we are being able to give the kids an out. Hopefully we can build this up to where colleges come in and evaluate these kids so not only do they get opportunities in New Mexico, but for me it's about getting them opportunities outside the state."At the showcase, Thomas gifted the inaugural KT Legacy Scholarship to Los Lunas graduate Adrianna Gaerlan. The former basketball hung up her shoes after graduating this past May but says the scholarship will hope her focus on more than just the sport in the future."It means a lot because basketball has always been very special to me," Gaerlan said. "But I had never thought about taking it further than high school. Getting this kind of reward back that this is the end of it, that felt nice."Gaerlan says she plans to use the scholarship money to help finance her schooling in the fall at New Mexico State University.
