WHAT THEY’RE PUTTING TOGETHER. IN THIS MORNING’S GOOD NEWS FILE STORY, I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT WE’RE HERE AND WE’RE HERE TO SAY AND WE’RE BEAUTIFUL AND WE’RE ALIVE. CHEYENNE ANDERSON IS A FRESHMAN AT BOSQUE SCHOOL. SHE’S ONE OF A FEW WORKING ON A BOOK CALLED SOUTH VALLEY. SHE SAYS IT SHOWS HOW BEAUTIFUL, RICH AND DIVERSE HER COMMUNITY IS. ANDERSON WANTS EVERYONE WHO READS IT TO KNOW THIS. THEY SHOULDN’T THINK THAT WHERE THEY’RE FROM AND HOW PEOPLE PERCEIVE THEM AFFECTS HOW THEIR LIFE IS. AND THEY SHOULDN’T BE HELD BACK BY ALL THESE NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES AND THAT THEY SHOULD ALL FEEL SEEN AND SEEN AS BEAUTIFUL. EACH PAGE SHOWS THE COLORFUL WORK OF SOUTH VALLEY ARTISTS BILL MOORE, ACCOMPANIED BY POETRY FROM CREATIVE ICONS LIKE JIMMY SANTIAGO BACA, LUIS RODRIGUEZ, MARY OLIVER AND LOCAL POETS LIKE NINE YEAR OLD POLETTI MCDONALD. HERE SHE READS HER POEM OUTSIDE. IT’S IN THE BOOK SUMMER BREEZE WINTER FREEZE AND EVERYTHING FROM ABOVE. TREES RUSTLE AND BEES BUZZ ALL WHEN EVERYBODY IS HUMMING ALONG. MCDONALD SAYS SHE LOVES LIVING IN THE SOUTH VALLEY. IT’S A REALLY GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD AND BEING ABLE TO EXPRESS THAT IS SPECIAL. I WAS PRETTY EXCITED WHEN I FIRST FOUND OUT THAT I COULD DO THIS, DO THIS BOOK. WE’RE JUST TRYING TO SHOW THAT THERE IS LIKE, WE’RE VIBRANT, WE’RE ALIVE. WE’RE NOT JUST ALL THIS LIKE, SAD PRESS.
