Inside a Rio Rancho Garage, you'll find Sarah Wilson working away, doing what she loves; creating art.
Each piece she creates has a touch of personality.
"Confident. Inspired ... good job working on it," said Sarah.
Her favorite thing to paint is birds. Each piece of canvas is filled with color.
"She went to Washington, D.C., a number of years ago, with The ARC of New Mexico and presented her artwork to our representatives in Washington, D.C," said Sarah's mother, Gwen Wilson.
Sarah has created paintings for Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Sen. Tom Udall and was commissioned by Sen. Ben Ray Lujan to make a portrait of his dad.
"I think that when you put your mind to it and when your child puts their mind to it, you can really accomplish a lot," said Gwen. "It's challenging, but a good challenge."
Sarah has Down syndrome, and her charisma, as well as charm, impacts everyone around her.
"There are a number of her classmates who have gone into different programs, therapy programs, because of their contact with Sarah ... Sarah kind of inspired them to become behavior therapists or occupational therapists," said Gwen.
When Sarah is not painting, she's a busy woman. She volunteers much of her time as a zoo ambassador, dancer and Special Olympics athlete.
The 36-year-old learns how to create these masterpieces alongside her teacher Tom Brejcha.
Brejcha's garage is filled with artwork he's created over the years, some of which was designed by Sarah.
