FIESTA. DISAPPOINTED YEAH. IT’S A LONG WAY TO COME FROM ABERDEEN TO ALBUQUERQUE, BUT WE’LL COME BACK NEXT YEAR. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MAKE THEIR WAY TO BALLOON FIESTA, HOPING TO SEE A SKY FULL OF SHAPES. COLORS. BUT THIS YEAR WE’RE JUST GOING TO ONE CLIENT HOTEL ROOM. NO MOTHER NATURE CALLS SEVERAL EVENTS TO BE CANCELED. I’M SORRY FOR THEIR EXPERIENCE. IF THEY’RE NOT ABLE TO EXPERIENCE ALL THE BALLOON FIESTA, BUT IT IS A WEATHER DEPENDENT. WE TRY TO MAKE THAT CLEAR TO EVERYONE UP FRONT. PAUL SMITH, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BALLOON FIESTA, SAYS THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. WE’RE A NONPROFIT CORPORATION, ACTUALLY. SO WE WE HAVE TO PLAN ON WHAT WE CAN DO BUT WE ISSUE RAIN CHECKS IF THERE IS. BUT THAT DOESN’T WORK FOR ALL VISITORS. THIS WAS THE ONE CHANCE, LIKE THIS COUPLE FROM SCOTLAND. WE CAME FOR THE BALLOON FESTIVAL. SO MUCH FOR BECAUSE IT’S BEEN CALLED OFF. THIS IS THE OF OUR TRIP IN NEW MEXICO SO TRIED TO END IT WITH THE BALLOON FESTIVAL. GOOD NEWS, THOUGH. WHILE RAIN CHECKS ARE ONLY ELIGIBLE WITHIN THE SAME, SMITH SAYS THINGS CAN BE WORKED OUT. JUST CALM, TRY TO MAKE IT AFFORDABLE FOR EVERYONE. SO IF THEY DO MISS OUT ON A YEAR, ACTUALLY CAN. THERE’S TIMES THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY, UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE THEM A RAIN CHECK FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR. SO WE’LL THAT AS WELL AND HOPEFULLY THEY CAN MAKE ANOTHER

Thousands of people make their way to Albuquerque's International Balloon Fiesta to catch breathtaking views of balloons, but officials said four out of the eight sessions were canceled due to weather for this year's 50th anniversary. "I'm sorry for their experience if they're not able to experience all of Balloon Fiesta, but it is a weather-dependent event," said Balloon Fiesta's executive director Paul Smith. "We don't have refunds. We're a non-profit corporation, actually. So, we have to plan on what we can, but we issue rain checks if there is." Laura Clark and Stuart Russell, a couple from Scotland, in town for Balloon Fiesta one day, were unable to attend due to the cancellation. "This was it. This was the one day," Clark said. "I'm disappointed. It's a long way to come from Aberdeen to Albuquerque, but we'll come back next year.""We came for the Balloon Festival, so much for money being spent, because I heard it's been called off," Russell said. "This is the end of our trip in New Mexico, so we tried to end it with Balloon Festival."While rain checks are only eligible within the same year, Smith said things can still be worked out if visitors call the main office to inform them of the matter. "We try to make it affordable for everyone. So, if they do miss out on a year, there are times we can actually, under certain circumstances, give them a rain check for the following year, so we'll do that as well," Russell said. "Hopefully they can make another trip back, because we want everyone to be able to see Balloon Fiesta."For more information, visit balloonfiesta.com.
