Too poor to retire. Too old to work for someone else. That's all the motivation. Café Lush owners Tom Dougherty and Sandy Gregory needed. I started on the West Coast and moved here in 1980. She beat me here by a number of years, fortunately we met after decades of working for someone else. I've been in the business all my life. This colorful couple decided it was time for a place to call their own, wanted a small cafe where people could come and just kind of hang out in the neighborhood. So they settled into this historic neighborhood in downtown Albuquerque. This being little Italy and a building that's been serving up food for more than 80 years. Kids were allowed to get hamburgers from ST. Mary's for 25 cents And if they came inside they didn't want him inside. It would be a dime more. It was $35 to keep the kids out. You continue restaurant. Very good. Very cinemania. It was delicious. You've got to try their award winning french toast. It's not your traditional french toast. It's cinnamon raisin bread from a local bakery with eggs, vanilla and coconut milk topped off with a delicious kalua syrup and their famous lust us. Oh and don't forget the apples inside. While the menu has changed over the years, it feels sort of like a family establishment and they really care about their customers. The idea remains the same. Our customers are so loyal that we can depend on them as much as we do. Our cars. Our employees, you're not
